The fifth meeting of the Western Greece Regional Implementation Group of the InCompass project took place on the 29th of April 2014, at the premises of Chamber of Achaia in Patras. The meeting’s main target has focused on ways to increase the entrepreneurial activity in the Western Greece Region (WGR) through further strengthening Research and Innovation.
Image - Picture Image - Picture Fourty (40) persons participated in total, from thirteen (13) regional stakeholders, each representing a different but crucial role within the Regional Innovation System. In this context, and from a policy implementation point of view, each of them contributed with their experience and know-how in order for the Region of Western Greece (i) to prioritize the support for the creation of new high-tech innovative enterprises in its policy agenda and (ii) to design and implement corresponding policies. In detail, the following stakeholders participated in the 5th RIG meeting:

  • Patras Municipal Enterprise for Planning & Development
  • Hellenic Consulting
  • Chamber of Achaia
  • Synergy European Consulting
  • Regional Development Fund of the Region of Western Greece

  • Diadikasia SA
  • Western Greece Region
  • University of Patras
At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Head of the Western Greece Region, Mr. George Angelopoulos, stressed the significance of the InCompass project for the policymakers of WGR about innovation and entrepreneurship.
Image - Picture Then, the General Secretary of the Chamber of Achaia Mr. Theodoros Tsoumpelis, spoke about the existing need for infrastructures that will facilitate research and innovation, and also about the hitherto cooperation between the Chamber of Achaia and the incubators in WGR.

Mr. Spyros Papaspyrou, member of the project team of WGR presented the project to the participants and stressed the fact that the targets of the InCompass project are in line with the general targets of the Western Greece Region.
Image - Picture The meeting continued with the presentation of the results from the questionnaires regarding the current status and needs of incubators that were distributed by the Western Greece Region.
Image - Picture Then, Professor Christos Bouras from the University of Patras, presented the typology of incubators focusing on European experience and the perspective of Western Greece. Details were presented for the various types of incubators (such as innovation days/weeks, innovation hub, co-working space, incubators, business center) and some good practices that were identified during the study visits of InCompass project were analyzed.
