On 10th May and 5th July, Avilés Municipality hosted the first and second meetings of the Regional Implementation Group of Asturias within InCompass project at the Cultural Factory, in the city of Avilés. The first meeting was used to introduce the InCompass project and its’ objectives to the RIG’s members, as well as to present the first study visit report from Rotterdam. • Business Innovation Centre of Asturias (CEEI Astuiras)

  • University of Oviedo
  • Cultural Factory of Avilés
  • The Asturian Federation of Entrepreneurs (FADE)

During the two-hour meetings, key topics related to the creative industries  and regional development were discussed, including: the crucial role of the educational institutions in the development of entrepreneurial skills; the importance of focusing on the right selection of international markets and the analysis of consumer behavior and needs; and the creation of good environments for business and  synergies support. In this sense, it is important to mention that the RIG of Asturias has representatives from Creative Growth, another INTERREG IV C project, successfully completed, and also focused on Creative Industries.

All attendees coincided on the importance of promoting the creative sector in the region and exploring best practices from other countries and regions in order to analyze their potential transferability. In addition, RIG members expressed their wish of taking advantage of this initiative not only to develop policies to promote creative industries in Asturias, but also to create a platform for continuous dialogue and networking between the relevant stakeholders as means to boost this sector, address its drawbacks and, eventually, contribute to the regional growth and development.
