Title General Info

Dundee City Council is a single-tier local authority which delivers a range of services to the people of Dundee. This includes a focus on housing, social work, education, the provision of cultural and leisure services, planning and economic development.

The InCompass project is being managed by the Council’s City Development Department which provides a range of planning and economic development services in the city. It continues to devise and implement highly successful strategies to support and develop the local economy, attract visitors, increase investment opportunities in Dundee and enhance the city’s role as a key player in the Scottish economy.

Title The City

Dundee is a modern and vibrant city set in a stunning location at the mouth of the River Tay on the east coast of Scotland. With a population of 145,000 the city is within a 90 minute drive of almost 90% of Scotland's population.

The city is home to two universities. The University of Dundee, which has recently undergone a £200 million campus redevelopment, is internationally renowned for its life sciences research and nationally recognized school of Art & Design, Duncan of Jordanstone. The University of Abertay Dundee is an national leader in digital games/media.

The result is a young, educated, cosmopolitan city with the highest student to resident ratio in Scotland, and one of the highest in the UK. More than 35,000 students live in Dundee, with key strengths in life sciences, digital media and healthcare.

Dundee City Council has overseen a cultural renaissance in the City over the past 20 years. Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee Rep Theatre, the Space (home to the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance), and The McManus (Dundee's beautifully refurbished art gallery and museum), are playing a part in re-establishing Dundee as a centre for art and culture. The next step in that renaissance is a partnership with the Victoria & Albert Museum in London which will see the V&A at Dundee open its doors in the city in 2015, creating a Centre of Design for Scotland.

The city is in the midst of a £100 million regeneration programme that will transform the waterfront and create a new urban core, reconnecting the city to its waterfront.
